Major Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for supervising the operations and maintenance of an assigned landfill.
- Trains, assigns, schedules, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines Waste Disposal personnel.
- Plans, manages and supervises compost operation and production.
- Identifies new sources of material for all waste diversion programs.
- Manages and develops relationships to acquire and sell material for said programs.
- Operates heavy equipment, inspects loads, and directs to proper disposal area.
- Inspects work for compliance with rules, regulations, and safety guidelines; conducts equipment and inventory inspections.
- Assists in developing and monitoring the division budget.
- Enforces environmental regulations; completes regular inspections of facilities.
- Creates and maintains various reports and logs regarding production, safety, inventory, and regulatory oversight.
- Develops, coordinates, and oversees all waste diversion programs within the department.
- Attends training seminars and conferences to stay current with new trends and technologies in the composting and waste diversion industry.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of the principles and practices of report preparation, filing, and records management.

Minimum Educational and Training Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to three years.

The work is typically performed outdoors while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.

The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, contagious or infectious diseases, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
