Responsibilities and Duties

Operations & Guest Experience

  • Oversee daily operations of recreation areas, which may include biking, boating, fishing, beach activities, TreeTop Adventure, Team Building events, and seasonal festivals such as Spring@Callaway, Summer@Callaway, Pumpkins@Callaway and Christmas@Callaway.
  • Ensure all recreation experiences are delivered safely, efficiently, and consistently with Callaway Gardens’ service standards
  • Actively monitor guest flow, capacity, and staffing to maintain positive guest experiences
  • Serve as an on-site leader during peak periods, addressing guest concerns and resolving issues in real time
  • Staff Leadership & Scheduling
  • Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate recreation staff and leads
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of seasonal and full-time team members
  • Create and manage staff schedules based on attendance forecasts, weather, and operational needs
  • Lead by example with a strong presence in the field, especially during high-volume days
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce all safety procedures, operational protocols, and emergency response plans
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and organizational safety standards
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of equipment, facilities, and activity areas
  • Document incidents and coordinate follow-up with management and safety teams
  • Planning & Coordination
  • Support the Recreation Manager/Director with seasonal planning, programming, and special events
  • Collaborate with Operations, Admissions, Guest Services, Safety, and Maintenance teams to ensure seamless execution
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and staffing of special events and large-scale programs
  • Identify operational challenges and recommend solutions for continuous improvement
  • Administrative & Financial Support
  • Assist with inventory management, equipment tracking, and supply ordering
  • Support labor management efforts, including timekeeping accuracy and cost control
  • Prepare reports related to attendance, incidents, staffing, and operational performance as requested

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • 3–5 years of experience in recreation, attractions, hospitality, or outdoor operations
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience required
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Flexible schedule required, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work 10–12 hour shifts during busier seasons of the year as needed.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 25pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to stand for long hours at a time.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Be able to positively motivate and lead a team, conveying information and ideas clearly and effectively so that ownership of high levels of guest service is understood to be the role of each individual team member.
  • Be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
  • Be able to work well in high-pressure situations while maintaining composure and objectivity, including the ability to listen carefully to and resolve guest issues to the satisfaction of the affected guests.
  • Be able to identify potential guest issues and then develop methodologies to prevent or limit the impact of those guest issues during guest visits.
  • Be able to assimilate complex information and data for various sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the need.
  • Be able to effectively listen to, understand, and clarify concerns and issues raised by team members and guests.
  • Be able to work with and understand financial information and data and perform basic math functions.
