This position performs technical duties in the preparation and application of herbicides and pesticides on city right of ways, grounds and turf.

• Mixes and applies herbicides to assigned rights-of-way, creeks, embankments, streams, and other areas.
• Drives a flatbed truck behind details engaged in cutting vegetation.
• Calibrates herbicide equipment for optimal performance; maintains proper and safe operation of herbicide equipment.
• Completes required documentation to account for herbicide application.
• Maintains overflow pipes at watersheds; cleans pipes by removing debris with a pitchfork, chainsaw, or by hand.
• Performs safety checks on assigned equipment and vehicles.
• Supervises the maintenance of equipment to ensure that it is in good working order.
• Cleans inlets.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of mixing and applying herbicidal chemicals.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of report preparation, filing, and records management.
• Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the application of herbicidal chemicals.

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must distinguish between shades of color. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
