DO NOT APPLY ONLINE! (ONLINE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.)- Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Clerk and as directed by the Judge, process applications for marriage licenses, weapons carry licenses, and other licenses, permits or exemptions filed in the Probate Court.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to: collecting the required costs of court or other fees, verifying that the required information is accurate, securing any required reports from agencies and/or facilities, presenting the matter to the judge or clerk for signature when required; issuing the license or permit, and recording as required by law.
- Added responsibilities include analyzing criminal background reports to make an initial determination of eligibility for weapons carry licenses and a willingness to cross train and develop paralegal skills related to processing estate and guardianship proceedings.
- Duties also include assisting attorneys and the public by answering general questions and giving instructions about procedures, providing referrals to other public agencies, providing copies of public records, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of general office practices.
- Knowledge of operation of office equipment and ability to use information technology services, including computers and various software programs.
- Ability to read, write, perform mathematical calculations and pay attention to detail at a level commonly associated with a post-secondary education.
- Skill in Interpersonal relationship skills needed to interact directly with the public and attorneys.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- The Hiring Committee considers the ability to speak a foreign language to be a “plus".
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is strongly preferred. However, the Hiring Committee will consider all applicants with a combination of significant work experience, education, and training that proves the applicant has the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job very well.
Physical Requirements
While the court will make reasonable accommodations for eligible applicants, the physical requirements to perform the essential functions of this job are consistent with work typically done in an office. Specifically, the employee must regularly: sit, stand, stoop, walk, use hands (to grasp, pinch and type), reach, talk, hear, see, kneel, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
