The Columbus Consolidated Government Radio System Supervisor/Coordinator oversees the operation, maintenance, and management of the municipal radio communications systems. This role ensures reliable and effective communication channels for public safety, emergency services, and other municipal departments. This position administers and coordinates radio system technology and contracts. Implements the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and repair of the Columbus Consolidated Government Radio System. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Oversees, manages, and maintains the activities of the Columbus Consolidated Government Radio System.
- Manages projects related to the radio system and serves as the Information Technology Department liaison for any projects involving the Columbus Consolidated Government's Radio System.
- Oversees the contractor's responsibilities in maintaining the radio system and supervises the maintenance and support of radio databases.
- Drafts and publishes standard operating procedures and service level agreements for contractors to define a scope of work for all radio system activities.
- Verifies all preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to according to documented service level agreements.
- Ensures consistent and open lines of communication with all radio system stakeholders to ensure ongoing engagement and collaboration.
- Maintains appropriate FCC license requirements to comply with local, state, and federal policies and procedures.
- Administers contracts for the CCG Radio System, software, and hardware and serves as the subject matter expert on all radio system projects or procurements.
- Assists in the preparation and evaluation of complex requests.
- Reviews open projects and requests.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of the disaster recovery plan.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Comprehensive knowledgeof methods, practices, and equipment used in radio systems.
- Extensiveknowledge in the installation and maintenance of radio hardware and software.
- Working knowledge of Motorola trunked radio system hardware, software, programming,and maintenance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Motorola 700 MHz radio systems.
- Extensive knowledge of VHF, UHF, 700 MHz frequencies and electronics,telecommunications, and data networking.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with diverse employee groups.
- Strong verbal and writtencommunication skills.
- Ability to develop professional end-user and operationsdocumentation.
- Ability to multitask across concurrent projects utilizing timemanagement skills.
- Strong drive for continuing education and development ofpersonal IT skills and knowledge.
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements
-
Bachelor’s Degree and/or one to three years of experience supporting radio systems for emergency services. Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

- Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.
- Pushing – use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.
- Reaching – extending hands or arms in any direction.
- Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
- Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.
- Standing – for sustained periods of time.
- Stooping – bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.
- Talking 1- expressing ideas by spoken word.
- Talking 2 – shouting to be heard above ambient noise.
- Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
- Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision.
- Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
- Visual Acuity 4 - operate motor vehicles/heavy equipment.
- Visual Acuity 5 -close acuity for inspection of small defects, machines, use measurement devices, or fabricate parts.
- Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.
