A Parents as Teachers National Center (PATNC) certified parent educator provides the information, support, and encouragement that the parents need to help their child develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. This is done by providing education in the form of personal visits in their home, group meetings, screenings, and linkages to a network of resources for parents and children.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possesses effective communication skills and is comfortable relating to strangers.
- Develop trusting relationships with parents as a model for parent-child relationships.
- Uses appropriate work-related behavior, dress and attitude toward fellow professionals.
- Establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships with families.
- Adheres to required confidentiality practices.
- Use time and resources effectively to manage personal stress and meet job expectations.
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in a related field.
Physical Requirements
Normal working conditions of an office environment include, but are not limited to: bending, lifting, kneeling, floor floor-level interactions with families. Driving.
