Description

Job Summary:

Incumbent provides for the establishment, maintenance, and management of classroom activities and providing those services necessary to meet the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans and daily schedules.
  • Develop, organize and maintain learning centers within the classroom.
  • Maintain order by using positive approach to behavior management.
  • Recruit volunteers and solicit In-kind contributions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of classrooms and adjoining restrooms.
  • Serve as an advocate for the Early Head Start & Head Start Programs, families and children.
  • Assist with mandated screening & assessments of the children.
  • Complete daily heath & anecdotal observations of children
  • Attend meetings, training and workshop as required.
  • Complete Home Visits and Parent Teacher Conferences a minimum of twice a year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education OR
  • Bachelors Degree in a related field (Child Development, Elementary Education, etc.) with a minimum of 45 credit hours in Early Childhood Education and minimum one year experience working with children from birth to 5 years of age.
  • Must undergo a national fingerprint background check and obtain a satisfactory determination from Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, children and staff.

Essential Physical Functions:
Incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. Occasionally required to stand, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to twenty five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
