Job Description SummaryThe Analytical Chemist is responsible for evaluating new testing applications and instrumentation. They either develop methods or adopt compendial methods. The AMD Chemist will aid in transferring these new methods into a Quality Control function for routine use. Additionally, the Chemist is responsible for assisting Operations, Sales, and Quality in preparing and testing samples for current and prospective customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- The Analytical Chemist will be the Liaison between Quality Control, Product Development, and Contract laboratories by evaluating and assessing testing methodologies and their application to different sample matrices. This responsibility also includes evaluating test results from contract laboratories to ensure that the agreed-upon methods and testing parameters were correctly followed.- The AMD Chemist will help with testing routine and non-routine samples as needed in the Quality Control laboratory. When new samples are received from potential suppliers, the Chemist will evaluate testing feasibility in-house before sending them to a contract laboratory.- The AMD Chemist will work with stability program personnel by keeping up with how new products are behaving during stability studies.- They assist in evaluating new testing applications, calibrating instrumentation, developing methods, or adopting compendial methods. They help transfer these new methods into a Quality Control function for routine use. The AMD Chemist ensures that at least these methods are accurate, precise, and robust for daily use on specific samples.- They assist the laboratory personnel in resolving Out of Specification (OOS) results in the analytical laboratory. They will ensure proper use of the analytical instrumentation and that no malfunctions are causing the OOS result. The AMD Chemist will ensure that no other interferences from the product formulations are causing the OOS result.- They assist in training new laboratory personnel. All training performed under the supervision of the AMD Chemist will be documented in accordance with established SOPs.- The AMD Chemist will follow Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) documentation guidelines to record all procedures in a timely fashion. They will maintain a safe working environment and will ensure that all equipment used in the testing procedures is calibrated and properly maintained.- Understanding chemical theory and analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, etc.- The AMD should be able to handle specific projects and other necessary functions required in meeting company objectives. Skills / Requirements- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other applied science, and experience in Quality Organizations in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical industries, or Chemistry Lab required.- Must have demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team.- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels, educational background, etc., are essential.- Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills required.- Must have the ability to research USP, FDA, and other pertinent regulating bodies to ensure the Quality Control/Assurance Chemistry Laboratory complies with the areas of analytical applications, release specifications, and documentation practices.- Exceptional computer and spreadsheet skills required.- The ability to troubleshoot equipment is required.- Must be able to walk, kneel, and climb stairs- Must be able to lift 25 -50 lbs. as needed- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed- Three to five years’ experience in food and drug GMPs preferred.
