- Support routine furnace housekeeping, including removal of spilled scrap, slag, and debris from around the furnace, tapping area, and charge deck to maintain safe working conditions.
- Assist in basic preventive maintenance tasks as assigned, such as cleaning cooling panels, checking hoses and clamps, and maintaining tools and equipment used around the furnace.
- Follow written melt instructions, alloy addition sheets, and quality requirements to support production of metal that meets chemistry and temperature specifications.
- Record basic operating information such as heats produced, charge materials used, temperatures reached, and notable delays or issues on forms or in simple electronic systems as required.
- Communicate effectively with senior operators, lab personnel, and supervision regarding melt status, quality concerns, equipment problems, and safety hazards.
- Handle tools, electrodes, lances, and other furnace-related equipment safely, using proper lifting techniques and mechanical aids where provided.
