Job Description

The Assistant Molder Machine Operator plays a critical role in foundry operations by assisting in the setup, operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of molding machines used to produce sand molds for castings. This position supports consistent production flow while maintaining quality, safety, and housekeeping standards. The operator works closely with senior molders, leadmen, and production team members to learn machine setup, sand handling, mold integrity, and basic troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in setting up and operating molding machines according to production schedules, patterns, and work instructions.
  • Help position and secure patterns, core boxes, and related tooling in the molding machine.
  • Monitor molding machine operation, including sand flow, mold formation, and cycle times.
  • Visually inspect molds for defects such as broken edges, loose sand, misalignment, or poor impressions, and remove or report defective molds as required.
  • Assist with core setting, mold closing, labeling, and transferring molds to conveyors, pouring lines, or staging areas as directed
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance tasks to keep machines and surrounding areas in safe working condition.
  • Remove accumulated sand, spilled material, and debris from around the molding line to maintain good housekeeping and safe footing.
  • Follow production instructions to achieve required mold counts and support on-time delivery to pouring and shipping operations.
  • Record basic production, downtime, and quality information accurately on forms or in simple electronic systems as required.
  • Communicate promptly with senior operators, maintenance, and supervision when equipment alarms, abnormal machine behavior, or quality problems occur.
  • Assist senior operators and supervisors in identifying process issues such as sand inconsistencies, pattern problems, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Handle molds, patterns, and tools safely, using proper lifting techniques and mechanical aids where provided.

Additionally, safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must be always adhered to. This includes wearing PPE such as hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, flame retardant clothing, and steel toe work boots.
