Job Description

The QC Technician – Machine Shop plays a critical role in operations by verifying that precision-machined components meet engineering drawings, customer specifications, and internal quality standards. This position is responsible for performing first-article, in-process, and final inspections using a variety of precision measuring tools and inspection equipment. The technician works closely with machinists, setup personnel, engineers, and supervisors to identify nonconforming product, contain defects, and support corrective actions. Attention to detail, strong print reading skills, and adherence to established machine shop and foundry safety procedures are required to minimize scrap, rework, delays, and customer issues while ensuring consistent product quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret engineering drawings, routings, and specifications to determine inspection requirements and critical characteristics.
  • Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections on machined parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, thread gauges, surface finish gauges, and other precision instruments.
  • Set up and operate coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and other advanced inspection equipment as trained and assigned.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, geometric features, surface finish, and threads in accordance with print requirements and customer standards.
  • Complete inspection check sheets, reports, and quality records accurately and in a timely manner; maintain traceable documentation for all inspected lots.
  • Identify nonconforming product, properly tag and segregate material, and initiate nonconformance reports (NCRs) in accordance with company procedures.
  • Work with machinists and supervisors to communicate quality issues, clarify requirements, and support timely disposition of suspect product.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions related to machining defects, dimensional issues, and repeat nonconformances.
  • Use basic statistical techniques and sampling plans as directed to monitor process capability and identify trends.
  • Verify calibration status of gauges and inspection tools prior to use; report damaged or out-of-calibration equipment and remove it from service.
  • Support and follow quality system requirements, including ISO 9001:2015 documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Maintain clean, orderly inspection areas, including proper storage and handling of gauges, fixtures, and parts.
  • Assist with training machinists and new employees on proper gauging methods and quality expectations as directed.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally to document findings and relay information to machine shop, engineering, and management.

Additionally, safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must be always adhered to. This includes wearing PPE such as hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, flame retardant clothing, and steel toe work boots.

Pre-employment drug screening is required.
