Position Goal

This staff member performs clerical duties within the HIM Department.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review admission and discharge registers for timely completion of H&P, operative report and discharge summary.
  • Enter deficiencies into the computer for physician response.
  • Coordinate the delinquent medical record count and the notification process to facilitate the timely completion of patient charts. This function includes reviewing and monitoring of the biweekly medical record delinquent count.
  • Send deficiency notices to the physicians twice monthly.
  • Assist with scanning Radiology records, ER Records, Neuromonitoring, Bill Only’s and Implant logs.
  • Assist with coding ER and ancillary records.
  • Completes required information requested pertaining to the State of Alabama Death Certificates.
  • Submits the monthly registry reports to ADPH and the State of Alabama.
  • Take initiative in handling issues of a non-routine nature.
  • Perform basic office clerical duties including copying, scanning and handling mail.
  • Assists with Business Office requests for medical records.
  • Assists in compiling data for internal hospital quality measures, external registries and tracking of internal HIM core measures.
  • Performs duties as necessary in the absence of staff to prevent backlogs in workflow.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of HIM.

Experience: One year of entry level medical office experience preferred.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Special Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient in data entry
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Preferred:

  • Customer Service Experience
  • Completion of some coursework in HIM or an advanced degree in related field
  • Coding Certification
