PRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of Director of Virtual Learning Programs is done for the purpose/s of being responsible for supporting the on-going opportunities for students to participate in online learning which includes an online 24/7 opportunity for elementary, middle and high school students to take courses inside and outside the

regular school day which may encompass both virtual and blended learning platforms.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Educational Level:

Master’s degree in job-related area with an emphasis in Master's degree in Education,

Technology or related field required.

2. Certification/License:

Valid GA Certificate in Leadership; Valid Driver’s License

3. Experience:

Job related experience within a specialized field is required and a minimum of two years supervisory experience and three years successful teaching and/or technology experience in an instructional leadership role required; online course development, online teaching and school administrative experience preferred; Familiarity with Canvas and Infinite Campus preferred.

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues

and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; standard business practices, program planning and development; concepts of grammar and punctuation; instructional strategies and practices; age appropriate student activities; understanding class scheduling; experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and stages of child development/behavior.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: ability to use and develop online resources to support instruction, strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, and strong instructional technology skills, including productivity software and web-based resources.

ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and

operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data

frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to

changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups and individuals; setting and meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating program goals and initiatives; and working with detailed information/data to aid in decision making and planning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Assists with the promotion of technology and virtual opportunities to district and school leadership, counselors, students, parent, and the community for the purpose of supporting and growing the district virtual education options.

2.

Assists in the development and monitors virtual learning program budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed and

identifies partnerships and additional funding opportunities.

3.

Collaborates with divisions and departments in the selection of appropriate materials for the purpose of staying up-to-date with state guidelines and current research in online instructional programming and resources.

4.

Communicates revisions to software platform and appropriate training for teachers for the purpose of continuing professional development and the effective use and adoption of district software investments.

5.

Conducts annual online course needs assessment and evaluation of online course curriculum for the purpose of maintaining course offering relevance and alignment with GaDOE standards.

6.

Coordinates the evaluation of technology, virtual and blended learning opportunities and recommends modifications which will enhance program offerings and opportunities for the purpose of inspiring and equipping students to achieve their unlimited potential.

7.

Coordinates and develops the teaching credential requirements for online/virtual teachers, staff development opportunities, resources and on-going support for online teachers for the purpose of establishing teacher candidate hiring requirements and standards.

8.

Ensures availability of necessary technical support for teachers, students, and parents for the purpose of minimizing challenges and obstacles that could impact instruction.

9.

Maintains student records, registration, record grades, monitors student and staff attendance and participation in all virtual learning opportunities for the purpose of meeting state and district reporting requirements.

10.

Prepares and analyzes reports/data including registration, completion rates, progress/grades and survey results for the purpose of demonstrating the virtual programs effectiveness and/or to be used in determining needed adjustments.

11.

Reviews and recommends policies and procedures related to online learning course delivery; communicates policies and procedures for virtual options to traditional schools and district staff for the purpose of ensuring district personnel are training and informed regarding the virtual options and the district policies and procedures that apply to the virtual options.

12.

Supervises all aspects of MCSD Virtual Learning Programs including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating teachers for the purpose of ensuring adequate staffing.

13.

Works with district and school leadership staff to develop and implement effective virtual and blended learning opportunities for the purpose of providing additional time and opportunity for students to master the Georgia Standards of Excellence.

14.

Participates in professional growth activities to keep abreast of current and emerging technologies related to technology, online learning and forms collaborative partnerships with other education agencies for the purpose of keeping the virtual option in line with current expectations and opportunities.

15.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of enduring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit as assigned by supervisor.
