ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direction of the Production Supervisor, and more skilled Production Operators and Technicians, operates press machines, robot press lines, or welding machines in a process that produces precision stamped metal components. Assists in the equipment set up and changeovers of production lines. Performs trouble shooting, repairs, and adjustments as needed.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- High school diploma or GED- Some experience as a machine operator- Possesses the ability to perform basic functions on a computer- Possesses the ability to perform basic mathematical calculationsPreferred- One or more years of experience as a machine operator- Two or more years of progressive production experience in press operationsDUTIESMachinery- Produces precision stamped metal parts, free from defects, using an automated press line(s) and manual presses- Maintains dies in the production area, by visually inspecting for defects; making minor adjustments under the direction/supervision of appropriate personnel- Ensures packing labels are correct and affixes to completed boxes as specified- Assists in the stacking of parts prior to stamping or loading into the feeder- Assists in the set ups in the production area, to include such things as: robotic arms and tables- Ensures first piece and last piece are compared and all features on the part are present and proper visual dimension- Inspects parts for defects after use of the press machine(s), using product specificationsFinishing/ Inspection- Inspects and/or repacks parts to ensure all processes have been completed as specified, such as holes tapped, spot welds, etc., providing additional cleaning/ brushing as specified per instruction guidelines- Per instruction guidelines, checks critical dimensions, using such tools as: jig, fixture, pin gage, or other specified tool. Reworking defective parts within capabilities- Operates presses or other machines to rework or repair parts as instructed; this may include brushing and/or grinding parts to remove slivers. Inspecting the parts for accuracyOther Duties- Ensures starting parts are correct with process check sheet and ERP system- Assembles parts as specified per the packing standards, this would include counting/weighing to ensure accurate quantities are packed and properly labeled- Disposes of scrap material, per company policies and procedures- If issues with the product should arise, alerts the supervisor and appropriate department- Organizes tools and parts for stamping and cleans work area to include sweeping, removing trash, cleaning oil spills and wiping down machine(s)- Maintains appropriate daily documentation by entering the required information- Inputs minimal data into the ERP system- Maintains documentation of all inspections performed, turning it into the appropriate personnel- Informs area leader in the case of corrective action(s) needing to be done on machine(s)- Under technical guidance of higher-level production staff, will train in the skills of Production OperatorSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- NoneTRAINING REQUIREMENTS- NoneQUALITY STANDARDS- Possesses the knowledge of quality, environmental, and company policies and procedures; ensuring all products are produced efficiently and effectively to meet the established requirements.PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Works in a standing or sitting position for extended periods of time, on a hard surface, with continual movement of arms and hands. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.). Required to do reading and computer work. Vision minimum is 20/40 near and distant (with or without corrective lenses).PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT- Wears safety shoes, glasses, ear plugs, and gloves while in the production area, this includes the die shop and warehouse.WORK ENVIRONMENT- Works inside of a semi-temperature-controlled plant where there are loud noises from presses. The work will be dusty, dirty, and greasy.
