ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESSupervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in production and repair of metal working dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and cutting tools, applying knowledge of design, machining, and tool and die construction. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- High school diploma or GED- One year of experience in a leadership role in the Tool and Die Shop- Graduate of a technical school with a degree in machining- Two years of experience in die making- Basic experience in programming of CNC and EDM- Working knowledge of metric measuring system, calipers, micrometers, dial gaugesPreferred (as listed on page)- Graduate of a two-year technical level course in Tool and Die- Four or more years of experience in die making- One or more years of experience as a Lead Technician or trainer in Tool and Die- Ability to perform basic computer functions WORKING CONDITIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES- Creates employee work schedule for Tool and Die Shop- Monitors/develops methods to improve efficiency, knowledge, skills, abilities of Tool and Die personnel- Coordinates production schedules with other areas; communicates priorities; includes building of new dies- Maintains open communication with management on Tool and Die Shop activities/concerns PHYSICAL EFFORT- Production: sitting/standing on hard surface; stooping, bending, lifting ~50 lbs; continual movement of hands/arms- Administrative: sitting long periods; bending, stooping, lifting ~20 lbs; extensive reading/computer work- All: vision minimum 20/40 near and distant (with or without correction); operates forklift; constant safety awareness SAFETY EQUIPMENT / TRAINING- In absence of subordinate trainers, instructs Die Technicians and Apprentices on: Band Saw; Manual Milling; NC Milling; Surface Grinder; CNC (laser/wire); EDM Plunge; Heat Treatment; Die Assembly; Sample Making- Forklift Certification required ADDITIONAL PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS- Mechanical/technical courses; six months of production or machine shop experience; one or more years of forklift/warehouse/shipping experience; ERP system skills OTHER DUTIES- Reviews documents to ensure appropriate actions per policies and procedures- Researches/recommends purchases for plant/equipment- Ensures Tool and Die Shop is maintained in a clean and orderly manner SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- Liaison for team member suggestions, grievances, and needs; communicates responses and information- Observes, evaluates, and documents performance, absenteeism, tardiness; supports performance appraisals- Enforces company policies and safety regulations- Interviews applicants; recommends transfers and new hires QUALITY STANDARDS- Provides leadership in implementing and maintaining quality, environmental, and company policies and procedures; ensures efficient and effective production to meet requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS / PPE / WORK ENVIRONMENT- Sitting or standing on hard surface for extended periods; stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs; extensive reading/computer work; vision minimum 20/40 (with or without correction)- Required PPE: safety shoes, glasses, gloves (as required/desired), ear plugs in production area; PPE required while operating forklift- Works inside temperature-controlled office/plant with noise from presses; work may be dusty, dirty, greasy; exposure to sharp edges and oils This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
