ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESSupervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in production and repair of metal working dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and cutting tools, by applying the knowledge of design machining and tool and die construction.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- High school diploma or GED- One year of experience in a leadership role in the Tool and Die Shop- Graduate of a technical school with a degree in machining- Two years of experience in die making- Basic experience in programming of CNC and EDM- Working knowledge of the metric measuring system, calipers, micrometers, and dial gaugesQUALITY RESPONSIBILITY- Graduate of a two-year technical level course in Tool and Die- Four or more years of experience in die making- One or more years of experience as a Lead Technician or trainer in Tool and Die- Possesses the ability to perform basic functions on a computeWORKING CONDITIONS- Creates the employee work schedule for the Tool and Die Shop- Monitors and develops methods of improving the efficiency, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the Tool and Die personnel- Coordinates with other work areas, the production schedules; ensuring the team members are aware of the schedule emphasizing the priorities; to include the building of new dies- Maintains an open line of communication with the appropriate management personnel about activities and concerns of the Tool and Die ShopPHYSICAL EFFORT- (Production) – works in a sitting or standing position on a hard surface; stands, stoops, bends, and lifts heavy objects (approximately 50 lbs.). Work may involve continual movement of hands and arms.- (Administrative) – sitting for long periods of time; bending, stooping, and lifting approximately 20lbs; extensive reading and computer work.- (All) – vision minimum is 20/40 near and distant (with or without corrective lenses).- Operates a forklift vehicle intended to lift heavy and large items; sets up and moves forklift arms.- Must maintain constant awareness of surroundings for safety purposes.SAFETY EQUIPMENT- In the absence of subordinate trainers, instructions Die Technicians and Apprentice(s) in the use of Tool and Die equipment and procedures such as:- Band Saw- Manual Milling Machine- Numerical Control Milling Machine- Surface Grinder MachineComputerized Numerical Controlled (CNC) Machine, both laser and wire cutting- EDM Plunge- Heat Treatmen- Die Assembly- Sample MakingADDITIONAL PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS- Mechanical or technical level courses; six months of production or machine shop experience; one or more years of forklift/warehouse/shipping experience.- Demonstrates skills and knowledge in the use of the ERP system.OTHER DUTIES- Reviews all documents to ensure all appropriate actions have been implemented, per the company’s policies and procedures- Researches and recommends purchase(s) of plant and equipment expenditures- Ensures that the Tool and Die Shop is properly maintained in a clean and orderly mannerSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- Is the liaison for team member suggestions, grievances, and needs, presenting the responses as well as other needed information to team members- Observes, evaluates, and documents team members job performance, absenteeism, and tardiness, annotating for performance appraisals- Enforces Oneda Corporation’s policies and procedures, ensuring safety regulations are followed- Interviews applicants for job openings, recommends transfers and new hiresTRAINING REQUIREMENTS- Forklift CertificationQUALITY STANDARDSProvides leadership and direction in implementing and maintaining established quality, environmental, and company policies and procedures through communication and training both oral and written to all team members; ensuring all products are produced efficiently and effectively to meet the established requirements.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWorks in a sitting or standing position, on a hard surface, for extended periods of time with continual movement of arms and hands. Will be required to stoop, bend, and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.). Extensive reading and computer work is required. Vision minimum is 20/40 near and distant (with or without corrective lenses).PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENTRequired to wear safety shoes, glasses, gloves (as required/desired), and ear plugs while in the production area to include die shop and warehouse. Personal safety equipment is required to be worn while operating a forklift.WORK ENVIRONMENTWorks inside a temperature-controlled office and temperature-controlled plant, where there is a great deal of noise from the presses. The work will be dusty, dirty, and greasy.
