ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direction of the Tool and Die Supervisor, works from plots to plan and perform the work required to construct and troubleshoot metal forms (dies) which are used in manufacturing precision metal parts.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- High School Diploma or GED- Nine months of experience in die making- Possess the ability to read plots, basic mathematical ability- Working knowledge of metric measuring system, calipers, micrometers, and dial gaugesPreferred- Graduate of a two year course in basic machining- Basic programming experience- One or more years of experience in machine shop and/or die making- Possesses the ability to perform basic functions on a computerDUTIES (highlights)Band Saw Operator: Selects material per blueprint; measures steel plate and bars; sets band saw to cut material.Manual Milling Machine Operator: Face mills and squares material; adjusts vise; checks accuracy of work.NC Milling Machine Operator: Face mills material; positions material on magnetic table; manually programs machine per instructions.Surface Grinder Machine Operator: Operates grinder to achieve precision surface; sets grinding wheel depth; measures plates with micrometer.CNC Programmer/Operator (Laser/Wire): Programs/operates CNC equipment; arranges materials; monitors and corrects; deburrs and cleans parts.Heat Treatment: Operates oven; prepares material; sets controls; cools parts.Die Assembly: Assembles dies per blueprint; modifies dies; maintains hardware inventory.Other Duties: Cleans machines; performs preventative maintenance; completes documentation; occasionally operates additional shop equipment.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists and mentors Tool and Die Apprentice(s)TRAINING REQUIREMENTS- Forklift CertificationQUALITY STANDARDS- Knowledge of quality, environmental, and company policies and procedures; ensures products meet established requirements.PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Sitting or standing for extended periods; stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs; reading and computer work; 20/40 vision min (with or without correction).PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT- Safety shoes, glasses, gloves (as required/desired), ear plugs in production areas.WORK ENVIRONMENT- Temperature controlled plant with noise from presses; dusty, dirty, greasy; exposure to sharp edges and chemicals in oil.This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
