ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESSupervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in production and repair of metal working dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and cutting tools, applying knowledge of design machining and tool and die construction. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- High school diploma or GED- One year of experience in a leadership role in the Tool and Die Shop- Graduate of a technical school with a degree in machining- Two years of experience in die making- Basic experience in programming of CNC and EDM- Working knowledge of the metric measuring system, calipers, micrometers, and dial gauges QUALITY RESPONSIBILITY (Preferred qualifications noted)- Graduate of a two-year technical level course in Tool and Die- Four or more years of experience in die making- One or more years as a Lead Technician or trainer in Tool and Die- Ability to perform basic functions on a computer WORKING CONDITIONS- Creates employee work schedule for Tool and Die Shop- Monitors and develops methods to improve efficiency, knowledge, skills, and abilities of Tool and Die personnel- Coordinates with other work areas on production schedules; ensures team members are aware of priorities, including building new dies- Maintains open communication with management about activities and concerns of Tool and Die Shop PHYSICAL EFFORT- Production: sitting or standing on hard surface; stooping, bending, lifting approx. 50 lbs.; continual hand/arm movement- Administrative: sitting for long periods; bending, stooping, lifting approx. 20 lbs.; extensive reading and computer work- All: vision minimum 20/40 near and distant (with or without corrective lenses); operates forklift; constant safety awareness required SAFETY EQUIPMENT / TRAINING (instructional areas)- In absence of subordinate trainers, instructs Die Technicians and Apprentice(s) in: Band Saw; Manual Milling Machine; Numerical Control Milling Machine; Surface Grinder Machine; CNC (laser and wire) machines; EDM Plunge; Heat Treatment; Die Assembly; Sample Making ADDITIONAL PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS- Mechanical or technical level courses; six months of production or machine shop experience; one or more years of forklift/warehouse/shipping experience- Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the use of the ERP system OTHER DUTIES- Reviews documents to ensure appropriate actions per company policies and procedures- Researches and recommends plant/equipment purchases- Ensures Tool and Die Shop is properly maintained in a clean, orderly manner SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- Liaison for team member suggestions, grievances, and needs; communicates responses and information- Observes, evaluates, and documents performance, absenteeism, tardiness; documents for appraisals- Enforces company policies and procedures; ensures safety regulations are followed- Interviews applicants; recommends transfers and new hires TRAINING REQUIREMENTS- Forklift Certification QUALITY STANDARDS- Provides leadership to implement and maintain established quality, environmental, and company policies and procedures; ensures products meet requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Sitting or standing on hard surface for extended periods with continual arm/hand movement; stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs.; extensive reading/computer work; vision minimum 20/40 (with/without correction) PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT- Safety shoes, glasses, gloves (as required/desired), ear plugs in production areas (die shop and warehouse); PPE required when operating a forklift WORK ENVIRONMENT- Temperature-controlled office and plant; significant press noise; work can be dusty, dirty, greasy; exposure to sharp edges and oil-based chemicals.
