JOB SUMMARY: The Security Officer provides a multi-faceted role: maintaining a professional, secure atmosphere for public-facing performances and ensuring a safe learning environment for the college’s students, faculty, and staff during recitals. This position requires a balance of vigilant monitoring, facility management during “normal business hours,” and high-energy crowd control during recitals and major events. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily Facility & College Operations — Building Security: Conduct patrols during standard business hours to ensure recital halls and administrative offices are used by authorized personnel only. Safety Inspections: Identify and report maintenance issues, such as lighting failures or tripping hazards, which could impact safety. Information Hub: Serve as a visible point of contact for students and visitors, providing directions and enforcing campus policies. Delivery Management: Supervise the loading dock and stage door to manage equipment deliveries for upcoming department recitals or touring shows. Event & Recital Management — Crowd Control: Manage entry flow for high-traffic events, ensuring patrons move efficiently from the lobby to the auditorium. Front-of-House Support: Coordinate with the Box Office and Usher teams to handle seating disputes or late-seating protocols. Backstage Security: Monitor the stage door and backstage areas during rehearsals and performances to protect performers’ privacy and secure expensive instruments/equipment. VIP/Talent Escort: Provide a secure presence for visiting artists or college dignitaries during high-profile ceremonies. Emergency Response & De-escalation — Incident Management: Act as the first responder for medical emergencies, fire alarm, and other safety incidents. Conflict Resolution: Use de-escalation techniques to handle unauthorized visitors or disruptive individuals with minimal impact on the academic or performance environment. Reporting: Maintain a daily log of activities and draft detailed reports for any security breaches or injuries. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Adaptability; Communication; Physical Stamina; Technical Literacy. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Campus security, hospitality, or entertainment industry experience; First Aid/CPR/AED; knowledge of local fire codes and theater-specific safety protocols.
