Job Summary
Responsible for limited respiratory care and inpatient 12-lead electrocardiograms. The respiratory care student/limited permit holder will practice under the supervision of a respiratory care professional (RCP). That RCP will be readily available in the facility for the limited permit holder.
Essential Functions
- Practices respiratory care within the limits of the laws governing the practice of respiratory care within the state. Must provide proof of limited permit and supply updates on procedures ‘checked off’. It is also the responsibility of the employee to update their limited permit with the state.
- Maintains certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) for the healthcare provider. Responds to all ‘code blues’ and other emergency situations to assist the respiratory care professional on duty.
- Functions calmly in emergency situations such as severe trauma, cardiopulmonary arrest and other life-threatening emergencies.
- Sets up, operates and monitors oxygen delivery equipment. Completes daily rounds to check oxygen systems.
- Work as a member of the care delivery team, integrates respiratory therapeutics and patient/family education with services and education provided by other members of the care delivery team.
- Performs routine inpatient 12-lead electrocardiograms.

- Must demonstrate good organizational and prioritization skills.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with and take assignments from respiratory staff members (RCPs).
- Excellent customer service skills required.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduation from high school or equivalent is required.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited respiratory care program
Licenses/Certifications
- Must hold a state issued limited permit to practice respiratory care according to state requirements
- BLS completed within grace period established by the organization.
- ACLS, NRP and PALS may also be required.
Experience
- Favorable references from the respiratory care program director or coordinator and clinical affiliates helpful.
- Second-year student within the program preferred.
- Completion of clinical rotations in ICU, ED, Med/Surg, Pediatrics and OB (Preferred)
