Job Summary
The RN Coordinator/Specialist – Medical/Surgical is responsible for coordinating and supporting patient care across the Medical and Surgical Units. This role collaborates with nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals to ensure efficient, high-quality care delivery and optimal patient outcomes. The RN Coordinator/Specialist assists with care transitions, monitors care standards, and supports quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance in an acute care environment.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate daily care activities across Medical and Surgical Units to support safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff and support adherence to protocols and policies.
- Participate in patient rounding, discharge planning, and patient/family education.
- Monitor quality indicators, regulatory compliance, and participate in performance improvement projects.
- Facilitate communication among providers, staff, patients, and families to promote continuity of care.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Support onboarding and ongoing clinical development of unit staff.
- Assist with coordination of supplies, equipment readiness, and unit operations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Strong clinical decision-making and patient assessment skills.
- Knowledge of Medical/Surgical care standards, workflows, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficient in EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a dynamic care environment
Qualifications
Education
- Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) from an accredited school of nursing (Required) And
- Bachelor’s Degree in nursing (Preferred) And
- Master’s Degree in nursing, healthcare management or administration (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of practice Upon Hire (Required) And
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Upon Hire
Experience
- 2+ years acute care inpatient nursing experience (Required) And
- Prior Experience in care coordination, quality improvement, or clinical leadership (Preferred)
