Job Summary

The Patient Access Team Lead is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the Patient Access Department, including registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and financial advocacy. This role assists the Patient Access Manager in coordinating staff activities, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, and maintaining a high standard of customer service. The Team Lead also monitors staff performance, provides training, and resolves operational issues to optimize workflow efficiency.

Essential Functions

  • Monitors daily operations of the Patient Access Department, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures
  • Supervises scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and financial advocacy processes
  • Provides guidance, training, and support to staff members
  • Assists in monitoring call center metrics and ensuring timely response to patient inquiries
  • Verifies insurance coverage and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary
  • Resolves patient billing inquiries and provides cost estimates for services
  • Conducts quality assurance checks to maintain data integrity
  • Communicates with patients, physicians, and other departments to coordinate patient access services
  • Monitors staff performance and provides feedback to the Patient Access Manager
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong knowledge of insurance verification, billing, and patient registration processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in healthcare software systems and electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role (preferred)

Licenses/Certifications

  • None required

Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in healthcare registration, scheduling, or patient access required
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
