JOB SUMMARY

• Under the direction of an RN is responsible for patient safety, welfare, and the implementation of therapeutic milieu and treatment plans.
• Serve as a patient observer on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require any degree of observation in order to maximize patient safety.
• Perform general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficiency of the nursing unit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provides direct clinical care to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse or other licensed clinical personnel.
• Serves as a Nurse Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in behavioral health performing the duties expected of an incumbent.
• Observes and records patient behavior and activities. Reports any changes in physical, mental or emotional condition to nursing staff and suggests modifications to the treatment plan.
• Provides crisis intervention with incoming calls and on the unit to maintain safety.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and patient friendly work environment; ensure supplies are stocked and available.

Minimum Education

• High school diploma or equivalent Required
• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field
• Two (2) years of additional experience beyond that required may be applied in lieu of the education requirement

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) X Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred
• Handle with Care Certification or CPI within 90 days of hire

Minimum Work Experience

• Four (4) years of mental health experience in Mental Health Technician or similar function is preferred

Required Skills

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
