Performs credit review and underwriting of commercial loans with a total Synovus Related Exposure (TSRE) up to $2.5MM as part of the Commercial Credit Analysis team. Demonstrates flexibility as underwriting assignments will vary daily depending on resources available and current volume. Refers to documented policies and procedures to guide and support the review and decision making process. Seeks the advice of supervisors and managers regarding issues outside of assigned scope. Performs research and financial and statistical analyses to determine and support client credit worthiness while minimizing risk exposure. Prepares analyses, reports and presentations for management review and regulatory reporting. Ensures all transactions and processing are in compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, policies and procedures. Offers alternative solutions to lenders in effort to meet the needs of the client and company.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs credit reviews and underwriting of commercial scored, and/or manually underwritten loans.
- Applies knowledge of the credit/risk management processes to ensure the appropriate balance between company risk and customer/client focus and relationship is maintained.
- Spreads financial statements and conducts loan portfolio research to determine credit quality, character and soundness including analysis of statistical data and financial statements, sensitivity analysis, industry analysis, management assessment, and guarantor analysis.
- Ensures the consistent use of well supported and factual analyses and processes to determine and recommend risk ratings. Includes review of matrix driven Risk Rating and identifies other factors that may impact the final grade positively or negatively.
- Follows standard operating procedures when preparing analyses, reports, and presentations for management review. Performs accurate spreading of historical financial statements.
- Analyzes projections, free of repetitious spread numbers and superfluous narrative and represents a clear focus on the merits, risks, and mitigating factors accordingly.
- Ensures each step of the process is in compliance with all company and regulatory guidelines, policies, procedures and methodology. Stays abreast of variations in laws across state boundaries as applicable.
- Offers alternative solutions to lenders such as structure change, additional collateral, etc.
- Participates in onboarding, training, and mentoring new teammates. Takes active role in team huddles. Participates in continuous improvement activities.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Experience:
- Graduate of the Synovus Accelerated Banker program; or one year of experience as a Commercial Credit Analyst with Synovus; or two years of credit analysis experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of credit risk analysis/underwriting principles, methods, practices and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of financial accounting theory, methodology and logic
- Proficient at the intermediate level in department credit/lending systems and databases
- Ability to meet reasonable deadlines and prioritization of workflow
- Ability to use work flow tool
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products
