The Assistant/Associate Professor position in Gifted Education is responsible for teaching graduate gifted education and other related graduate courses as needed; serving as the program coordinator for the Gifted Education program; evaluating students relative to CAEP and Alabama Department of Education standards; guiding related field experiences; supervising clinical experiences; advising education majors; participating in service activities; production of scholarly work; collaboration with local districts and agencies to support Gifted Education programs; collaboration with faculty in assessment, recruitment and retention activities and curriculum planning; and academic advisement.

Teaching workload is 24 semester hours per academic year as a faculty member in Gifted Education. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate and/or graduate courses utilizing online, on-campus, or blended formats. Responsibilities are commensurate with rank in accordance with the Faculty Handbook in the areas of teaching, service, and scholarship.

1. Terminal degree in Gifted Education or related discipline
2. Successful teaching experience in a K-12 setting.

1. Experience teaching at the college level and online
2. Current Professional Educator Certificate
3. Knowledge of Alabama educational initiatives, such as the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative
4. Experience integrating technology into teaching
5. Knowledge of ALSDE and CAEP accreditation expectations
6. Experience in the coordination and supervision of clinical field experiences
7. Established record of scholarly work and active participation in professional organizations
9. Knowledge of Alabama Literacy Act and Alabama Numeracy Act requirements
