Job Summary

The Vision Rehabilitation Assistant position is responsible for:
  • Functioning as an assistant to a Vision Rehabilitation Therapists and/or Rehabilitation Counselors to include providing reader services, completing intake forms and scheduling appointments.
  • Providing follow up services to consumers as prescribed by the Vision Rehabilitation Therapists and/or Rehabilitation Counselor.
  • Providing feedback and reports to the Vision Rehabilitation Therapists and/or Rehabilitation Counselor regarding consumer behavior and goal achievement.
  • Assisting with ensuring that adaptive equipment prescribed to and instructed in the use of by the Vision Rehabilitation Therapists and/or Rehabilitation Counselor to the consumer is being utilized.
  • Assisting with creating and sending correspondence, filing, scanning and indexing documents.
  • Scheduling appointments and manage Outlook Calendar for Vision Rehabilitation Therapists and/or Rehabilitation Counselor, as needed.
  • Providing light clerical duties assigned by the Rehabilitation Professional.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have valid Alabama Driver’s License.
  • Must have a safe and dependable automobile with comprehensive insurance for use on the job and provide proof of insurance.
  • Candidate must be able to meet and maintain the below minimum automobile insurance policy as follows:
    • Liability
      • $25,000 per person
      • $50,000 per accident
      • $25,000 property
  • Ability to read and write fluently
  • Ability to interact with public in a positive manner (over the phone and in person).
  • Ability to travel including statewide travel and some overnight trips.
  • Ability to transport visually impaired professional and dog guide to appointments, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate early or late afternoon appointments.
  • The successful applicant must submit to a criminal history background information check including but not limited to FBI and ABI record repositories.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience working with persons who are blind and/or low vision.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency using Microsoft Office Software.
Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties? Driving is a primary responsibility
Work Hours
- Ability to travel statewide and occasionally provide services for overnight trips
- Flexible hours to accommodate early or late afternoon appointments

- Ability to lift and/or move approximately 20-25 pounds
