Special Education Paraprofessional - Self Contained Elementary Classroom Assistant. The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in daily classroom activities, supports special needs students, and attends to their physical, emotional, health, and safety needs. Paraprofessional Certification Information: All Georgia paraprofessionals must hold a valid Paraprofessional Educator certificate (GaPSC). Certification can be completed within the first 30 days of employment. Applicants must hold at least a high school diploma or GED and meet one of the following: two years of college (60 semester/90 quarter hours), an associate’s or higher degree, or a passing score on the (GACE/Praxis) Paraprofessional Assessment. Additional requirements include filing skills, computer skills, classroom management, and other duties as assigned.
