Special Education Paraprofessional - Self Contained Elementary Classroom Assistant. The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in daily classroom activities; helps special needs students; cares for their physical, emotional health and safety; affirms abilities; promotes dignity. Paraprofessional Certification Information: All Georgia paraprofessionals must hold a valid Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by GaPSC. Paraprofessional Certification can be completed within the first 30 days of employment. Applicants must hold at least a high school diploma or GED and satisfy federal hiring requirements. Must meet one of: 60 semester/90 quarter hours of higher education; associate’s or higher degree; passed Georgia Paraprofessional (or Praxis prior to 9/1/2006) or GACE Paraprofessional Assessment. Provide transcripts or assessment documentation and HS diploma/GED. Information available at GACE website or Columbus State University Testing Center. Also required: filing skills, computer skills, classroom management, and any other duties as assigned.
