The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in daily classroom activities, helps special needs students, and cares for their physical and emotional health and safety. Paraprofessional Certification Information: All Georgia paraprofessionals must hold a valid Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by GaPSC. Paraprofessional Certification can be completed within the first 30 days of employment. Applicants must hold at least a high school diploma or GED and satisfy federal hiring requirements; meet one of: 60 semester/90 quarter hours; associate’s or higher degree; passed Georgia Paraprofessional (or Praxis prior to 9/1/2006) or GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.
