SUMMARY:

Performs tasks required by the Management team of Environmental Services. Mainly responsible for support for the following programs: Docuware Program, Watershed Protection, Laboratory Services, and Regulatory Compliance. This requires the employee to perform duties associated with laboratory techniques, field sampling, and office document management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Responsible for assisting the Assistant Managers and other employees of Environmental Services with the following:

  1. Assisting the Laboratory, Watershed Program, and Regulatory Compliance departments with the following:
    1. Collection of daily samples of water
    2. Wastewater
    3. Industrial effluent
    4. Groundwater, etc.
  2. Performing various on-site tests and maintains any equipment used to collect samples. Performing basic field analysis procedures (pH, temperature, etc.). Maintains records of sampling information on chain of custodies.
  3. Responsible for performing various laboratory techniques that include but are not limited to pH, biochemical oxygen demand, TKN, solids analysis, volatile acids, chlorine residual, turbidity, alkalinity, hardness, total and fecal coliform, cyanide and ammonia distillations, oil and grease, sludge digestions, industrial, groundwater and soils analyses.
  4. Utilizing CWW’s document control system to archive sensitive and State required data.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Good knowledge of chemical principles, terminology, techniques, equipment, and laboratory tests pertaining to the analysis of water and wastewater; good knowledge of the process and treatment stages involved in water purification and wastewater treatment; good math skills and ability to compute and record test results; ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees; be in good physical condition

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

As an undergraduate the candidate must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university obtaining a degree in the field of Environmental Science or other science-related discipline and have a minimum of 60 credit hours earned toward a bachelor’s degree. As a graduate the candidate must be currently enrolled in, but not yet graduated from, a master’s-level program from an accredited college or university obtaining a degree in the field of Environmental Science or other science-related discipline. Must have at least senior level or graduate level science classes with labs.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Must possess good mathematical skills and the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Driver’s License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

DURATION OF INTERSHIP:

The duration of the internship is not to exceed 24 consecutive months and is contingent upon continuous enrollment in an accredited college or university. Any exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
